Horse Racing & Equestrian Centers
Horse racing in Maryland has a long and glorious tradition. Historic Pimlico Race Course, home of the Preakness Stakes, one of the most prominent events in American sports, first opened its doors in 1870 and it has seen such Triple Crown champions as War Admiral, Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed thunder around its track in breathtaking competitions. Spectators can still thrill at majestic creatures like, Afleet Alex, the 2005 Preakness Stakes winner at Pimlico Raceway and at Laurel Park Raceway.
